A team of Swiss French-speaking sailors, aged of less than 25 years, will attempt to qualify for the Red Bull Youth Americas Cup which will be held in September 2013 in San Francisco on AC 45 wingsail catamarans. Team Tilt will be at the colors of Jiva Hill and Tag Heuer and will train on Lake Geneva on a Decision 35 catamaran.
Geneva, January the 22nd, 2013 Within the context of the Americas Cup, the best young sailors of the world have, for the first time, the chance to participate to the Red Bull Youth Americas Cup.
Team Tilt, which competes on behalf of SNG, is proud to announce that it has been invited to participate to the selection trials, the Selection Series, of the Red Bull Youth Americas Cup based on an initial presentation file as well as a first selection. The final selections will be held on the water between February the 9th and February the 24th 2013 in San Francisco. They will allow to designate the teams which will be qualified for the finals which will be held in San Francisco in September 2013, one week before the final series of the Americas Cup.
Alex Schneiter, Team leader of the project, states the following after the qualification of the team in view of the Selection Series: This first selection (twelve projects have been selected over thirty applications) is excellent news for the team and the result of an incredible team work within such short time constraint. The project has been initiated at the end of September and, within two months, we had to build up a solid structure, search for sponsors, acquire a catamaran for the purpose of a training matching the ambitions of such a project, select a team and put in place a sailing program as well as physical training at the highest level. Mission accomplished and we are proud of this first result! This will open us the doors to a participation to the final selections on AC 45 in San Francisco. This is obviously a huge challenge, but the team is more motivated than ever!
The skipper of the team will be the young and talented sailor, Lucien Cujean, which has been involved in recent years on the most competitive boats of Lake Geneva (such as the Decision 35 or M2) and also competed within the context of several important international regattas such as for example a victory in the Tour de France à la voile within the context of an amateur team.
The intensive trainings have started at the beginning of November on a well-known catamaran of Lake Geneva, the Decision 35. Two prestigious partners have rapidly been convinced by the seriousness and ambition of the project: Jiva Hill Park Hotel and the watchmaker Tag Heuer. As specifies Jean-Christophe Babin, chairman and CEO of Tag Heuer: as a Swiss watchmaker, we are full of enthusiasm and very proud to commit ourselves alongside a young and dynamic Swiss team. Team Tilt and Tag Heuer sail on the same waters: high technology, precision, tradition and sound competitiveness.
Team Tilt will also participate to the Vulcain Trophy 2013 and hopes to benefit from the exceptional level of the sailors sailing on this type of catamarans to help the squad being ready for the Red Bull Youth Americas Cup next summer.
Team Tilt is the Swiss challenger for the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup. The event will take place in September 2013 in San Francisco, alongside the Americas Cup. It is aimed at young talented sailors from all over the world (under 24 yo). Team Tilt has been training throughout the winter in Switzerland, on board a Decision 35 catamaran. The team will carry on training hard until the Youth Americas Cup, and will compete in the Vulcain Trophy on Lake Geneva. The team will also compete in some stopovers of the TeamWork M2 Speed Tour and the Extreme 40 Series. Team Tilt carries the colours of Jivahill Park Hotel and Tag Heuer. It competes for, and forms part of, Société Nautique de Genève (SNG) with the support of Swiss Sailing.”
